OOTD: Edgier then usual....

A not so preppy look
For this look I decided to mix it up from my usual preppy get up to something with a little more edge. I paired a distressed denim shirt with a black burnout skirt. The skirt has a fun ruffle on the bottom which keeps the look still girly enough. For accessories I wore a fun statement necklace (as usual), a jelly chain bracelet, and a pair of fun strappy sandals. I kept my lipstick a dark red color to go along with the overall darker look. Might I add I was having a great hair day! Using a curling wand I made light wavy curls in my hair.

OOTD: Inner Hippie

Alter ego?
Sometimes I like to mix up my style from my normal preppy looks and do something a little more edgy or boho. This outfit is one of those days! I got this super cute maroon tulle dress at a boutique in Iowa when I was visiting my friend. It is super fun and playful and can be styled in a lot of different ways. For this look I decided to keep it more edgy. To keep myself warm I layered the dress with an embroidered denim button down. It has a slight tribal pattern which gives the look a little edge. To make it seem not so oversized I tied the sides up into little nots. I love doing this because it keeps the shirt out of your way and makes it a little more girly. For jewelry I layered a short necklace and a very long chain. The chain has jewels that range in colors then the short necklace is a single spike dagger situation. For shoes I simply wore a pair of gold and silver sandals from Target.

However, my hair is what really makes the look a little more not myself! I decided to try and mix up the normal messy bun that morning. So, I made two pigtails super close to each other on the top of my head. Then I teased both pig tails then wrapped the hair around the elastic band to create two textured buns. I slightly pushed them together to create a kind of combined bun look. At first I didn't know how it would turn out but it actually looks super cute, messy, and playful. Normally I am a very slick sleek bun, mainly because I danced for 14 years (I have to have everything neat!), so this was definitely a change for my hair!

OOTD: Edgy Stripes

Surprise surprise I am wearing stripes! As you may know I have a severe stripe addiction. This shirt was on super clearance and was in my recent spring break blog haul!

I paired the striped tee with a fun denim vest and a pair of army green pants. This look is super comfortable but still put together. For accessories I wore my everyday watch, a stack of bracelets, and a fun statement necklace. This combination of pieces creates a fun but edgy look.

Also you may notice my new hair-do! I got three inches cut off and now my hair is super healthy and refreshed. I always feel like a new person once I get my hair cut. Its interesting figuring out how to work my new length when I'm styling it. But, my curls came out pretty well for the first try!

Formal Ready Looks

Spring formals are coming around the corner! I recently had my formal last weekend. But, there are still many formals to come. So, the big question is what should you wear for a fabulous formal night?

Well, depending on your school you can go either more casual or very formal. At my school I would say it is in between more casual and formal. Most girls wore a fun cocktail dress and a great pair of heels. If your school is similar here are three looks that will be formal ready.

Edgy: Lets say your not the typical "sorority girl". Well, you can still rock studs and spikes at your formal. Wear a fun dress that has lots of cut outs. This will create a cool and unique look. Pair your dress with a bold and punk statement necklace for a different type of "glam". For shoes, pick something with a metallic and some straps. If you want to carry a clutch carry a fun spiked one. With all of these components you will for sure stand out at your formal.

Girly: But, what if you are a super feminine girly girl? Well, formal will be a piece of cake! For a fun girly look stick with a fun silhouette. Something that hugs your waist tight will be super flattering. This dress also has a fun stripe pattern. But, if you want to keep things more simple find a solid color frock. For accessories find a cute pair of bold earrings that match your dress. Then for shoes wear a fun pair of pumps. These black ones have a fun bow accent that no girly girl could resist.

Boho: If boho is more your scene try and find a fun lace number. This one has a unique sleeve cut out detail so it adds an extra special touch. For accessories find a fun rhinestone head band to wear across your head. Add a stack of bangles and stud earrings for extra sparkle. Then for shoes wear a strappy sandal with thicker straps.

Pretty Pastels

Pastels are always a huge trend in the spring. Personally I love wearing light and girly colors. So, how can you adapt this major trend to your style? Most people probably think pastels only work if you are a girly girl. Wrong! Anyone and everyone can rock a pastel look. Here are 6 outfit ideas to inspire you for warmer weather and spring! (Which will hopefully come soon)

My pastel must haves:
So many pastels so little time! Here are some of my pastel must haves. Every girl needs pastel in their closet! Whether it is a pair of Sperry's, some shades, or a statement necklace pastel is in.

Spring Trends: Accent Collared Shirts

Accent Collared Shirts

Spring fashion is just around the corner! I don't know about you but I am so ready for spring and warmer weather. Today in Ames it is about negative 20 degrees without wind chill! So, I want the warmer weather and a change from my scarves and heavy coats.

A major trend for spring is collared or oxford shirts. Specifically shirts with accent collars. This trend is super easy to achieve without trying very hard at all. In fact, you might already have one of these shirts in your closet.

I created three looks with three different types of styles. The girly option pairs a collared shirt with a pair of pastel high waisted shorts. It creates a light and fun look. The wild option incorporates a cheetah print collar. This look is ideal if you want a hint of sass and edge. The last look is for someone who is edgy with a hint of boho chic. With the leather accent collar it adds a touch of edge. But, if you wear a fun colorful chain necklace it brightens up the otherwise dark look.

You could even wear these looks right now! Simply pair the shorts or skirt with tights and the sleeveless shirts with a cardi or oversized sweater. So, if you are eager for spring simply take this trend and start it early. Maybe it will change the weather..... just kidding it will probably be cold forever :(

OOTD: Emerald Leather

Today's outfit is very out of the box for me. Sometimes I just feel like I want to have an alternate ego and just dress totally edgy. This was one of those days.

My outfit includes a fringe pencil skirt and a green leather jacket. The leather jacket is a recent Christmas present and I am kind of obsessed. The sleeves have a cool detail were they zip off so you can wear it as a vest which is kind of perfect. Also, not to mention it has a super unique dark emerald green color. I styled my hair in a sectioned pony with a cute wire headband. You can see my hair tutorial for how I styled it on my blog!

To finish the look I wore my favorite ankle booties and a pair of black tights.

How to Style Cargo Jackets

How to Style Cargo Jackets

Cargo jackets are a great staple to have in your closet. They are surprisingly versatile and super easy to wear. Not only do they double as an extra layer in the winter but they are super stylish and fun.

You can turn a cargo or military jacket into whatever style suits you. In this picture she styled it to fit a very classic style.

Cargo Jacket

Look one: This look a casual yet put together look. Pair your cargo jacket with a baseball tee, leather circle skirt, and a pair of booties for an easy look. You can wear this look to class, to go out with friends, or for a lunch date with your girls.
Look two: The next look is more feminine then the first look. A sleeveless cargo jacket is less harsh so i will appear more soft. Pairing a dress and a soft printed scarf with your jacket you will give you a fun girly look. Add a stack of bangles to complete the ensemble.

How to Style Sequin Skirts

How to Style Sequin Skirts

During the holiday season I find myself buying a lot of sparkly and fun pieces. But, how can you wear a sequin skirt more then once? It's easier then you may think!

Sequin skirts are a fun way to spice up a normal day. As much as they are a party piece they can work into your every day outfits.

{Can I please be her she is so chic!}

{Pairing a sequin mini with a big sweater is a great way to blend comfort and style.}

How to style: Sequin Skirts

Night Out: This look is a great edgy look. Paring your sequin skirt with a fun tee is a great way to make it more laid back. Ankle boots and a pair of colored tights can also add interest and make your outfit come together.
Casual: Pair your skirt with a layer of shirts. Put on your favorite denim button down and sweater and you have a great look for class. To keep you warm throw on some tights and complete the look with a pair of quirky flats or a classic boot.
Cocktail Party: Mix up the classic party look with a fun fringe top. The fringe and sequins will add extra texture to the ensemble. Add a pair of heels and a clutch and you are good to go.

My Picks:

Patterned: I am obsessed with chevron! And for $20 this mini skirt would be a great addition to a preppy girls wardrobe.

Sparkle: This skirt is simple but still shines. It comes in both a light champagne and black color so they are also super versatile.

Pencil Skirt: This is a unique length for a sequin skirt and I kind of like it! Also, the pink color is super cute and chic.
